ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED: How to Fix It

Something on your computer is denying Chrome network access: a firewall, security software, a content filter or a missing permission.

ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED

Chrome tried to connect but your system refused to let it. A firewall rule, security app or permission setting is blocking the browser.

Quick checks

  • Does the same site work in Safari? Then something blocks Chrome specifically.
  • Check firewalls like Little Snitch or LuLu for a rule denying Chrome.

Fixes on Mac

  1. Check firewall apps

    1. Open your firewall app (Little Snitch, LuLu, Radio Silence…) and look for deny rules for Google Chrome or its helpers.
    2. macOS's own firewall (System Settings › Network › Firewall) only blocks incoming connections, so it's rarely the cause.
  2. Check Local Network permission

    1. For local addresses (routers, NAS), allow Chrome in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.
  3. Check Screen Time and content filters

    1. System Settings › Screen Time › Content & Privacy: check web content limits.

Fixes on Windows

  1. Check Windows Firewall and antivirus

    1. Allow Chrome through Windows Defender Firewall (Allow an app through firewall).

Other devices

  1. Managed devices

    1. On work or school devices, policies may block access; ask IT.

Still not working?

If you can't find the blocking rule, try another browser or create a new macOS user account to test. If it works there, the cause is software or settings in your user account.

Frequently asked questions

What does ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED mean?

The operating system or security software refused Chrome's attempt to use the network. It isn't the website blocking you.

Does the macOS firewall cause it?

Rarely. The built-in firewall controls incoming connections. Outgoing blocks come from third-party firewalls, content filters or Screen Time.

Why can't Chrome reach my router's page?

Since macOS 15, apps need Local Network permission. Turn it on for Chrome in Privacy & Security › Local Network.
