AT&T DNS Servers, CGNAT and IPv6

AT&T's residential DNS resolvers are 68.94.156.1 and 68.94.157.1. AT&T Fiber gets a public IPv4 address and IPv6; AT&T Internet Air (fixed wireless) uses CGNAT.

These two resolvers date from the SBC era: they reverse-resolve to dnsr1 and dnsr2.sbcglobal.net in AT&T's network (AS7018), which we confirmed on 24 October 2026. AT&T gateways such as the BGW320 hand out their own address (192.168.1.254) as DNS and forward to these servers, and they don't let you change the upstream DNS. To use another resolver, set it on each device or put your own router behind the gateway with IP Passthrough. Fiber plans get a public IPv4 address and IPv6; AT&T Internet Air, the 5G fixed-wireless service, uses carrier-grade NAT.

Frequently asked questions

What are AT&T's DNS servers?

68.94.156.1 and 68.94.157.1. Your AT&T gateway usually acts as the DNS server for your devices and forwards queries to these.

Can I change DNS on an AT&T gateway?

Not the DNS it hands out. Set DNS on each device, or use IP Passthrough with your own router and configure DNS there.

Does AT&T use CGNAT?

AT&T Fiber provides a public IPv4 address. AT&T Internet Air (fixed wireless) uses carrier-grade NAT, so port forwarding doesn't work on it.
